My name is Roger May. I am a documentary photographer based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
I love photography. Could you be more specific? Photojournalism, documentary photography, architectural photography, fine art photography. OK, you get the, um, picture. I also like gadgets and all things Mac. On a personal note, I married my best friend, Wendy, and together we have three children, three cats, three dogs, and three Macs. I believe that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.
So, what’s with the name? It came about a couple of years ago when I emailed Jim Merithew (formerly of the San Francisco Chronicle and now Photo Editor at Wired.com), after reading this column on sportsshooter.com. I expressed my condolences for the loss of his mother and my thanks for his transparency with such an intimate life event. In his response, he thanked me and simply wrote – Don’t forget to take your camera out for a walk. When I decided to start a blog (like nearly every other photographer on the planet), I remembered this exchange, emailed Jim again and asked if he’d mind if I used it for a title. His response? You go.
